This session will examine the provisions and planning implications of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act (March 27, 2020) that pertain to the income taxation of individuals, including tax rebates, business interest and loan limitations, charitable contributions, and retirement plan distributions and loans.
Richard L. Kaplan is the Guy Raymond Jones Chair in Law at the University of Illinois and is an internationally recognized authority on U.S. tax law and policy. A graduate of Yale University Law School, he is also a C.P.A, and practiced tax law for three years in Houston before coming to the University in 1979. He is a co-author of two volumes in the West’s Federal Taxation textbook series, as well as numerous articles on various aspects of tax law and policy. In addition, he has testified on tax matters before the House Committee on Ways and Means and the Senate Committee on Finance at the Committees' request. Professor Kaplan is a research fellow of the Employee Benefits Research Institute and an elected member of the National Academy of Social Insurance.
