Senator Jason Barickman was elected to the Illinois State Senate in 2012, and represents the 53rd Legislative District. He currently serves as the Senate Assistant Republican Leader, Co-Chair of the Legislative Audit Commission, Minority Spokesperson on the Judiciary Committee, and is a member of the Criminal Law, Education, Executive, and Labor committees.

Senator Barickman has been an advocate of education reform and played an instrumental role in improving the way schools are funded in Illinois.

Barickman was raised on a family farm in Livingston County near Ancona, and graduated from Woodland High School. Barickman is a proud veteran, having served as an infantry soldier in the Illinois Army National Guard.

Barickman attended Illinois State University, graduating with Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science.  After graduation Jason worked as a business consultant, primarily within the telecommunications and technology industries, before attending the University of Illinois College of Law.  Currently he is an attorney with the firm of Meyer Capel, where his practice focuses on real estate and business law. Senator Barickman is active in real estate investment and development, and is a partner at Fairlawn Capital, which is a full-service real estate investment management firm based in Champaign. He is also frequently an Adjunct Faculty member at Illinois State University.

Senator Barickman has been honored for his work in the Illinois General Assembly from agriculture and business groups.  Barickman was selected to participate in the inaugural class of the 2012 Edgar Fellows Leadership Program, which works to help future leaders bridge partisan divides and work together, and he continues to be active in that effort.

Jason and his wife, Kristin, live in Bloomington and have three young children.
