This presentation will describe the burden of Maternal Mortality and Morbidity as related to maternal mental health problems as risk factors. The presentaion will present epidemiological data on perinatal mental health problems and health disparities. Clincial implications of the research findings on perinatal helath and mental health diparities such as univeral depression screening. If women are identified early for depression this can reduce the burden of postpartum depression and mortality.
Objectives
- To report the prevalence of perinatal depression in minority and rural population.
- To describe the prevalence and complications related to untreated perinatal depression.
- To list at least two strategies for addressing perinatal mental health disparities in clinics.
