Please join the Department of Latina/Latino Studies for its annual Rolando Hinojosa-Smith, Jr. Lecture Series. Dr. Jennifer Nájera (University of California, Riverside) will discuss her book Learning to Lead: Undocumented Students Mobilizing Education (Duke University Press, 2024).
"Here to Learn, Here to Stay!: Undocumented Students Mobilizing Education"
When our community is under attack, what do we do? Fight back. This talk examines the intersections of immigration, higher education, and activism through a case study of undocumented student activists in southern California. It looks at the uncommon places students build political knowledge and the multi-scalar ways activists advocate for migrant justice. These students offer a way for us to understand how political power circulates, how social movements evolve over time, and the power of collective action and community.
