Bringing deep technologies to the marketplace is never a simple matter. It requires navigating the bumpy pathways associated with translating research into product, getting regulatory approvals, long incubation times, in addition to getting adequate funding and acquiring customers. This ECE Explorations Seminar will feature several faculty and researchers from the University community who will share their stories on creating deep technology startups based on their research activities and interests. List of panelists include Prof. Derek Hoiem (ReConstruct), Prof. Stephen Boppart (PhotoniCare), and Chinmay Soman (EarthSense, Inc.).
Organizer: Prof. Sanjay Patel is a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is a world-renowned technologist, entrepreneur. researcher, and author. His primary research area is in the intersection of computer architecture, sensors, and machine learning. From 2004-2008 he was CTO of AGEIA Technologies (acquired by Nvidia in 2008), and from 2010-2019, he was CEO and co-founder of Personify (acquired by Foxconn in 2019).
