Dr. Carolyn Wisniewski

The goal of the writing retreat is to help you make significant progress with your dissertation writing in a supportive atmosphere and to promote effective writing practices that you can incorporate beyond the retreat.

The retreat provides structured writing, break, and discussion time. Participants should commit to write from 9-12:30 each morning. In the afternoons, participants may elect to attend a workshop, continue writing, and/or receive feedback on their writing in short consultations. You will have space to set up your laptops and relevant books/papers. However, you should expect to be working alongside other writers (akin to a library/café atmosphere). Lunch will be provided on the first day.

The optional workshop topics will include: goal setting, scheduling strategies, and staying on track with writing goals; asking for and using feedback; work-life balance; and other topics.

To get the most out of the retreat, participants should have completed source/data collection and be prepared to concentrate primarily on your writing. Space is limited and preference will be given to thesis and dissertation writers who have completed the proposal stage. Participants must commit to being present for the full week of the retreat.

Because space is limited—and because we want writers to have a productive retreat—we ask that you complete an application to attend. On the application, you will be asked to provide information about your anticipated timeline for completing your degree. You also will need to upload a 250-300 word description of your thesis or dissertation, including an estimate of how much has already been written (percentage), reasons for attending the retreat, and two specific goals you’d like to accomplish during the retreat.

Application deadline Monday, July 30, 2018, 11:59pm CST

Applicants will have their place at the retreat confirmed by Wednesday, August 1.
