"Re-Writing the Story: Understanding Implicit Bias"

Wednesday, January 23, 2019, 4:00 P.M.

Charles G. Miller Auditorium

B102 CLSL

Abstract:

Implicit biases are social stereotypes about certain groups of people that individuals form outside their own conscious awareness. Everyone holds unconscious beliefs about various social and identity groups, and these biases stem from one’s tendency to organize social worlds by categorizing. This workshop explores the different types of implicit bias and how they may manifest in our respective spaces. In addition, participants will learn strategies to mitigate the negative effects of implicit bias and re-align personal and organizational practices as needed.

Coffee and cookies will be served in the atrium outside the auditorium beginning at 3:30 p.m.
