Bethany G. Anderson (Natural and Applied Sciences Archivist) will discuss the history of the evocative and paradoxical symbol of the Ouroboros, a snake eating its own tail. Originating in ancient Egyptian iconography, it was reconfigured by scientists and engineers at the U of I’s Biological Computer Lab as a scientific visualization to represent cybernetic ideas.
