Join us for a panel discussion focused on the Reproductive Health Act passed in Illinois in 2019 which protects safe and legal abortions for women even if Roe v. Wade is overturned. Illinois is one of only six states to pass legislation maintaining access to legal abortion services while other states legislated restrictions. What is the history of this act and implications for the future?

Panelists:

Dr. Toni M. Bond, Co-Founder and former CEO and President of Black Women for Reproductive Justice which coined the phrase “Reproductive Justice” in 1994. Dr. Bond holds a Ph.D. in Religion, Ethics and Society from Claremont School of Theology.

Illinois State Representative Kelly Cassidy (D) 14th District, who sponsored the Reproductive Health Act in the State House. Earlier, Ms. Cassidy worked as an organizer, and Legislative Director for Chicago NOW.

Ms. Diana Parker, Executive Director of Midwest Access Coalition, a non-profit Chicago organization that provides transportation, travel costs and other support services to women seeking abortion care.

Dr. Leslie Reagan, Professor of History, Medicine, Gender Studies and Law at the University of Illinois Champagne-Urbana, she is the author of When Abortion Was a Crime: Women, Medicine and Law in the United States, 1867-1973 and other works.
