The spring 1973 occupation of Wounded Knee was an event that reached far beyond the boundaries of the U.S. as a nation state. The event catalyzed a transnational movement for American Indian sovereignty, and resulted in interaction between activists on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. This unlikely alliance came to serve a multiplicity of causes, from Native North American sovereignty through New Age spiritualities to anti-nuclear struggles and environmentalism. This talk maps out the relationships within this unlikely Transatlantic community of activists.
