Abstract
Conventional boost converters have many limitations for high step-up applications. The flying capacitor multilevel converter (FCML) utilizes both capacitors and inductors to transfer and store energy in the conversion process. This presentation will discuss the advantages of FCML in high boost applications against a regular boost converter from a more fundamental perspective. Concerns for design and implementation will also be addressed with test results from a 100 V to 1 kV, 1 kW converter prototype.
