SAS 7: Positive Psychological Well-Being Related to Cardiovascular Health

Rosalba “Rose” Hernandez, Associate Professor

Associate Professor Rosalba “Rose” Hernandez is a behavioral health scientist whose research examines how psychological well-being, social conditions, and innovative technologies can improve health and reduce disparities. Her work spans cardiovascular health, chronic illness, cancer, and kidney disease, with a particular focus on Latino communities and other populations facing health inequities. She develops and evaluates positive psychology and behavioral interventions, including virtual reality and artificial intelligence-supported approaches, designed for use in real-world clinical and community settings.

She has been on campus since 2014 and previously served as UIC Nursing’s Associate Dean for Equity and Inclusion. She is currently a tenured Associate Professor in the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign School of Social Work and an NIH-funded investigator whose interdisciplinary work bridges public health, medicine, nursing, and social work.
