Charles Gammie, Professor, Astronomy
Donald Biggar Willet Chair in Physics

You may have seen some of the images in the news from the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) Collaboration, which won the 2020 Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics for creating the first image of a supermassive black hole. Come learn more about the Horizon Collaboration, which has the goal to develop computational tools for generating state of the art, relativistic, ab initio models of accreting black holes – from the interstellar medium to the event horizon

Charles Gammie’s research involves black holes, formation of the Moon, planet formation, star formation, cosmic ray transport, and interstellar turbulence, and he is a leader in the computer simulation of astrophysical plasmas, particularly studies of hot plasmas accreting onto black holes.
