CHP 2022 London ICST student participants
Fifteen Chancellor’s Scholars travelled to London from May 16-26, 2022 for a CHP section of ENGL 199, “Immersive London: A Tour of English Theatre and Culture,” a CHP Intercultural Study Tour designed to explore the theatre and culture of London, England. From its medieval origins, the West End has evolved into one of the world’s premier theatre and entertainment districts. Students engaged with their surroundings via a range of activities, including guided tours, walking tours, free-writing sessions, museum visits, and trips to see current shows at different venues both commercial and avant-garde or experimental. Their home base was close to the historic “Southwark” area of London, near the site of the Globe Theatre, the Borough Market, and the Tate Modern. Their time together allowed for a one day trip to the UNESCO World Heritage site Canterbury in Kent. UI English Professor Andrea Stevens, CHP Associate Director Anne Price, and Graduate Assistant Megan Cole led the trip.
