Join the Data Science User Group on Friday, November 6 from 12-1PM. This month the Data Science User Group kicks-off Research Park's Big Data Summit.

For this month’s data science user group meeting, we will be discussing responsible computing and considerations for data science with regards to our changing society and various ethical and social concerns. We will kick off the meeting with two short presentations: Dr. William Sullivan, Professor of Landscape Architecture at UIUC and Director of the Smart, Healthy Cities Initiative, will be presenting on his team’s work on the SaferIllinois app and how they needed to consider both the protection of health as well as privacy. Then we'll hear from Motahhare Eslami, Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon and former Google PhD Fellowship awardee, who will be discussing her work on understanding how humans interact with AI algorithms and how bias affects many stages of this interaction. After the short presentations, our DSUG leadership will moderate a Q&A session and encourage participation from the Zoom attendees.

The aim of the user group is to build a community of interest around data science to foster learning, collaboration, and networking. The group will serve both students and professionals to bridge the gap between the analytical sciences and practical applications of industry. Anyone is invited and included, from undergraduate students (or younger!) to seasoned professionals. There is no requirement for admission, only an interest in learning more about data science.

To join our virtual meetup, please RSVP here.
