Jumpstart Your NIH SBIR/STTR Proposal in 4 Sessions

This FREE training series includes expert guidance, assistance, homework, and individual feedback that helps qualified teams to prepare successful SBIR/STTR applications for submission to the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

APPLICATION DEADLINE: To ensure full consideration, apply by Noon on January 10, 2023.

The Illinois FAST Center is planning to deliver an NIH SBIR/STTR Sprint Workshop series to be held in February 2023. The workshops for this 4-week program will be held on Tuesdays from Noon to 1:30 PM/CT on February 7, 14, 21, & 28 at Portal Innovations. Chicago-area startups and small business that are developing medical or healthcare-based innovation are encouraged to apply. We also welcome applicants from other Illinois regions that are working on medical/healthcare-based innovation.

Although the cost to provide Sprint training averages around $1,500 per team, the Illinois FAST Center offers this training FREE to qualified Illinois teams thanks to funding provided by the SBA Federal and State Technology Partnership Program. Due to limited capacity for on-site and online participation, the committee will be selecting teams that have a high-to-moderate level of NIH proposal readiness to participate in the full program (on-site and online options). There is also an option on the application to audit the course online, which provides full access to all Sprint training materials. The audit option does not provide the level of inetraction and participation that is required of teams participating in the full sprint program.

COURSE EXPECTATIONS AND COMMITMENT FOR THE FULL SPRINT PROGRAM

  • The full Sprint program features NIH-specific training and materials, homework assignments, and individual feedback from training instructors on your work-in-progress proposal development.
  • Homework is not optional for participation in the full program. All homework assignments result in work toward proposal preparation. Expect that it may take up to 12 hours per week to complete and submit homework assignments - which will result in receiving extensive and helpful instructor comments.
  • The first homework assignments will be due on January 31 – PRIOR to the start of the Sprint. The assignment will include drafting a Specific Aims outline or document. Additional guidance will be provided with notification emails. Subsequent homework assignments will be due on Friday following each Tuesday session.
  • If your team is not able or willing to honor the expectations and commitment required of the full sprint program, we encourage you to choose the audit the course option provided in the final application question.

NOTIFICATIONS: We anticipate reaching out the week of January 16, 2023 regarding application status. In order to secure their participation, invited teams will be required to register EACH participating team member within 1-3 days of notification. Course access information will be provided to invited team members upon registration.
