Title: Davenport-Heilbronn's Theorem on counting cubic fields

Abstract: I will give an expository talk on the Davenport-Heilbronn theorem establishing asymptotics for the number of cubic (number) fields with discriminant at most D, following the modern treatment using Bhargava's averaging method. I will also explain how this allows us to understand the distribution of the 3-torsion of the class group of quadratic fields. If time permits, I will say a sentence or two about ongoing work with collaborators.
