The Center for Writing Studies invites you to our lecture on Thursday, March, featuring Dr. Bobby J. Smith II, an Associate Professor of African American Studies and Public Voices Fellow at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

Lecture:
"Writing the Forgotten Black Past: Brief Notes on Recovery"
12pm-1:30pm, Illini Union Bookstore, Rm 514
In this talk, Dr. Smith will reflect on his interactive approach to research and writing in African American Studies: the resurrection of important but missing Black figures and organizations in history and the process of writing them back into it. Specifically, Dr. Smith examines two pieces of his writing—one public, the other scholarly—to briefly walk us through his approach, inviting us to engage in a dialogue about what it means to write in the hidden crevices of the archive of Black life and how to translate what is recovered and produced to broader public and scholarly communities.
