Abstract:

The latest trends are to use more and more public cloud tools like AWS, GCP and Azure.  But these tools come with a significant operating cost and performance cost compared to writing software optimized for a target hardware environment.  Joe is Co-Founder of Ocient, a distributed database platform that scales to hundreds of PB and tens of thousands of cores of processing.  He will discuss the decisions made when optimizing performance and cost for the Ocient database platform and the discuss the advantages that give Ocient a 10x performance gain compared to alternative options.
