Given an infinity category, you can enlarge it by “freely” adjoining colimits indexed by any chosen class of infinity-categories. “Freely” indicates that the construction is characterized by a universal property. In this talk I discuss some elementary but apparently not well-known (at least in this generality) properties of free colimit-completion. Then I’ll put these ideas in a wider context, by introducing a notion of “global presheaves”.
