My Voice, My Story
Workshop description:
The primary objectives of the My Voice, My Story (MVMS) sessions, created at and used with permission by Cornell University, are “to utilize the power of narratives to achieve a greater understanding of the stories on the lived of experiences of graduate and professional students that frequently go untold, and to develop and share strategies on how to create more inclusive and supportive research and learning environments.”
This 2-hour workshop pairs video monologues with guided discussions by MVMS facilitators: Dr. Ellen Wang Althaus, Director of the Sloan University Center of Exemplary Mentoring, Graduate College; Dr. Charlotte Bauer, Assistant Dean, Communications & Strategic Planning, Graduate College; and Prof. Isabel Molina-Guzmán, Associate Dean for Faculty Diversity & Inclusion, College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. Participants will learn a range of topics including, but not limited to, effective listening skills, how to recognize instances of unconscious bias, and strategies on how individuals can contribute to improving the organizational climate for the Illinois community.
