Alumna Marinda Wu (PhD, ‘76, Drago) will share her personal and professional journey as a chemist, from her family roots to her PhD in chemistry at Illinois and a long career in the chemical industry, primarily with Dow Chemical Company in research and development but also experiences with small chemical companies and startups. She holds seven U.S. patents and founded "Science is Fun!" to engage young students in science and enhance public support for science education. In 2013, she became the eighth woman president and the first Asian American to serve as president of the American Chemical Society. Wu currently serves on the UIUC Chemistry Alumni Advisory Board and is the Chair of the Board of Directors for the Chinese American Chemical Society.
