19th Annual Health Innovation Research Day (HIRD 2021)

8:15 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
This year’s virtual conference will showcase the exciting medical research and innovation that’s going on at Carle Illinois College of Medicine, University of Illinois College of Medicine at Urbana-Champaign, and Carle Health. The event features keynote presentations by three experts; presentations by developing researchers; and an opportunity to create dialogue over ideas, scholarship, and research.
Anyone with an interest in medical research and innovation is invited to attend.
Plenary Sessions
- 8:45-9:45 a.m: “Health Inequities and the Making of Race: A Short History” by Rana Hogarth, Ph.D.
A professor of history at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Dr. Hogarth is also author of the book Medicalizing Blackness: Making Racial Difference in the Atlantic World, 1780-1840.
- 12:30-1:30 p.m: “Protecting Brain Development for the Sake of Mental Health” by Hanna Stevens, M.D., Ph.D.
A graduate of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign M.D./Ph.D. program, Dr. Stevens is now associate professor of psychiatry at the University of Iowa.
- 3:30-4:30 p.m: “The Future of Medical Innovation and Education: How We Can Prepare the Future Clinicians Today” by Anthony Chang, M.D., M.P.H.
Dr. Chang, a pediatric cardiologist and entrepreneur, serves as Chief Intelligence and Innovation Officer (CIIO) and Medical Director of the Heart Failure Program at Children’s Hospital of Orange County, Calif.
