ISAS Research Archaeologist Isabelle Lulewicz will discuss her research addressing environmental change related to the Little Ice Age (starts ca. AD 1200), economic strategies, sociopolitical and socioeconomic organization at the Calusa sites of Pineland and Mound Key in southwest Florida. By using radiocarbon dates, oxygen isotope geochemistry of marine shell growth bands, and zooarchaeological analysis, this research provides evidence of how indigenous people experienced climate change on a scale that directly affected the availability of animal resources.
