CONTEMPORARY MAYAN HISTORY AND CULTURE

  • June 17-21, 2019
  • 9:00 am-12:00 pm  &  2:00-5:00 pm (6 hours/day)

Join CLACS for our annual, week-long Professional Development workshop for K-12 and Community College Educators/Librarians interested in Latin American Studies.

This year we will focus on contemporary Maya communities and participants will learn about Mayan contemporary histories, languages, cultures, and politics.  Participants will also learn the basics of Q’anjob’al, a Mayan language spoken right here in C-U!  Activities will include lectures by UI faculty supplemented by music and movies.  Participants will be able to revise and/or create new classroom materials to be shared by all.

K-12 educators in Illinois are elegible to receive ISBE Professional Development Hours (PDH). Others are elegible to receive General University Continuing Education units (CEU).
