In preparation for the Holidays, participants will learn about one of the most popular traditional foods from Brazil: “coxinha.” Served at traditional celebrations as an appetizer, or as a snack at cafés, bars, and food trucks, coxinha is a comfort food Brazilians love. The delicacy consists of a deep-fried dough filled with shredded chicken, it is something anyone interested in learning about Brazilian culture must try. After learning about the origin of the food, participants will be invited to prepare their own coxinhas, and sample the food. The workshop “Coxinha” will provide participants with a variety of insights about Brazilian culture and the opportunity for participants to reflect on how to prepare a culture-rich lesson plan. The workshop will start with a short introduction of participants, followed by a presentation on the origins of one of the most popular street foods in Brazil. Following, participants will have the opportunity of preparing and sampling the food.
Illinois K-16 educators are eligible to receive ISBE Professional Development Hours (PDH).
