Featured speaker: Retired Colonel Deborah Olson Read
Retired Colonel Deborah Read has strong ties to the University of Illinois. Col. Read was a pioneer for women in the ROTC program, as one of the first women at the Illinois to take ROTC curriculum. Col Read graduated in 1973 from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and commissioned into the U.S. Army alongside her fellow classmates and cadets. During her 30 years of service, Col. Read was the first woman assigned to the 197th Infantry Brigade at Fort Benning and the first woman instructor at the U.S. Army Infantry School where she taught Military Intelligence. Col. Read served 30 years in the military, reaching rank of Colonel. Col. Read is a member of the Fighting Illini Army ROTC Hall of Fame (2014).
