Abstract:
Empirical research has repeatedly shown that work stress adversely affects employees’ well-being, health, and their capability to perform their job effectively and safely. Among the numerous work stressors impacting employees, I will highlight several prevalent and emerging factors that require attention to improve the well-being and safety of employees in today’s environment. These include blurred work-nonwork life boundaries due to the use of information and communication technology, workplace incivility, and insufficient recovery from work stress. Subsequently, I will present various workplace prevention and intervention strategies recommended in the existing literature.
