The Beckman Institute recognizes the important contributions made by graduate students and is proud to provide support. As part of Grad Student Appreciation Week, the Beckman Institute will host “Putting Mentoring First at Beckman: A Dialogue With Jen Heemstra and Jeff Moore” at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29. Registration is required for Zoom access.
The event — for Beckman Institute graduate students — will be a dialogue between Dr. Moore and former Illinois grad student Jen Heemstra, who now leads a research group at Emory University and is known for her practical advice to researchers at all career stages.
Dr. Moore and Dr. Heemstra plan to talk about how to build a better culture of training and support for grad students at the Beckman Institute and beyond. They will also discuss the idea to ask faculty mentors to take a pledge to do more to put mentoring first and become more centered on training students and postdocs.
