The Russian, East European, and Eurasian Center (REEEC) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is pleased to announce that applications are open for our interdisciplinary Master's programs.
We offer two:
1) Our MA in Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies (REEES) offers a two-year program which combines interdisciplinary area study of the region with broad opportunities to study regional languages. It provides a solid foundation in our field both for students interested in academic careers and for students aiming to pursue their ambitions in government, business, the media, international law, private foundations, or the NGO sector.
2) We also offer a dual-degree program, which combines an MA in REEES with an MS LIS degree from Illinois' top-ranked School of Information Science. Through the iSchool, students can take courses in informatics, information management, digital humanities, archival and library sciences, cybersecurity, and other, related information science disciplines. At the same time, they have the opportunity to deepen their study of our region, and its languages through interdisciplinary coursework.
More information about both of these programs can be found on our website.

The University of Illinois Urbana Champaign, one of the nation's leading public research universities, has tremendous resources to support graduate training in our field. We are home to one of the world's major library collections; dozens of faculty with expertise in the study of the REEES region; the expert regional research specialists of the Slavic Reference Service SRS); and the flagship journal the Slavic Review. REEEC itself is a federally-funded National Resource Center (NRC) for the study of our region, and together with the SRS hosts the Summer Research Laboratory on Russia, Eastern Europe, and Eurasia each year.
MA and MA / MS students can qualify for a range of financial support through our program. As an NRC, REEEC is able to offer Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) fellowships, in support of area studies and language training. These fellowships cover up to $18,000 in tuition and offer a yearly stipend of $15,000. In addition, the University offers work opportunities across campus that carry with them tuition waivers.
