Professor Ponce will discuss the most recent findings the ENCOVI project (2019-2020), one of the main sources of social and economic conditions data in Venezuela today. The lecture will focus on major demographic and social changes in the population associated with Venezuela’s crisis, with special attention to the themes of food security and social inequality.

Maria Gabriela Ponce is a sociologist and specialist in information systems from the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello in Venezuela, and a doctoral candidate (ABD) in Development Studies from the Universidad Central de Venezuela. She is a faculty member and researcher of the Instituto de Investigaciones Económicas y Sociales de la Universidad Católica Andrés Bello and one of the main researchers the ENCOVI project (Encuesta de Condiciones de Vida). Professor Ponce conducts research on living conditions and poverty, social policies, and electoral behavior in Venezuela. She has published several books and articles in these areas.
