While trade disputes between the US and the EU dominate the headlines, economic cooperation between the two economic superpowers continues uninterrupted in less visible ways. One of them is though networks connecting businesses and civil society from the two side the Atlantic. This talk takes a closer look at these networks, which were established deliberately by the US Government and the European Commission in the 1990s for the transatlantic coordination of economic policy. Dr. Kourtikakis presents the findings of a research project which examines why organizations participate in these networks and under what conditions they can be effective. The project is a collaboration with Dr. Ekaterina Turkina (HEC Montreal) and Dr. Evgeny Postnikov (University of Melbourne), and has been supported by the EUC with a Jean Monnet Center of Excellence grant.
