My lab studies how neuromodulation enables long-term changes in synaptic strength, neural circuit function, perception, and behavior. Here I will discuss recent and on-going work building systems for studying how sounds acquire behavioral meaning in two domains: recognition of infant distress cries by new mother mice, and use of cochlear implants by deafened rats.
