- Anthropologist and filmmaker Pâmilla Ribeiro will present a talk on audiovisual methods in anthropological fieldwork, drawing on selected excerpts from collaboratively produced documentary films developed with riverside dwellers along the São Francisco River, Brazil. In this dramatic moment, as elders see themselves and the river on the verge of disappearance, audiovisual practices emerge as a way to reveal deeper realities, bridging ancestral knowledge and lived experience. We will discuss how film in action stimulates elders to narrate and perform their experiences, moving beyond documentation toward a mode of knowledge production that reshapes ethnographic relationships. In this interactive presentation, participants will be invited to share their own experiences, challenges, and ethical concerns related to audiovisual research, fieldwork, and collaborative practices.
