Illinois Family Roots Pilot Program Kick-Off Meeting with Rep Carol Ammons

Join us for an informative session on the Illinois Family Roots Pilot Program promoted by House Resolution 453. Sponsored by Illinois State Representative Carol Ammons, HR453 supports efforts to enable Illinois residents to recover their African ancestral histories by providing free DNA tests and analysis through The African Kinship Reunion (TAKiR) project.

Join us to learn how to sign up for a free DNA test and explore your ancestral history!

In this kick-off meeting, Rep Carol Ammons, sponsor of HR0453, Dr. David, principal investigator of TAKiR, and La Kisha Latham, Vice President of Conrad Worrell Community Reparations Commission (CWCRC), will discuss the Illinois Family Roots Pilot program and what it means for reparations. Rep Ammons will discuss the intent of HR0453 and the Illinois Family Roots Pilot Program. Dr. David will provide an overview of the program, highlighting the innovative use of genetic genealogy to reconstruct ancestral narratives and pave the way for cultural healing and restoration. Ms. Latham will explain how the pilot program breaks down barriers for providing documentation of their lineages from present day into the slave era for Black people living in Illinois.
