Eric Leonardson is an audio artist who performs internationally with the Springboard, a self-built instrument constructed in 1994 to explore the sonic potential of coil springs and other readily available materials amplified by a piezo disc contact microphone, which he plays with cello bows and homemade friction mallets.
Leonardson’s performances illustrate how vibrations from materials and objects from our everyday environment may produce uniquely striking sounds for composed and improvised works. His trio evokes otherworldly landscapes in sound. "The music travels between mesmerizing and explosive. My guess is that [Leonardson] improvises locally but composes globally."— Glenn Engstrand, The Improvisor
The Sudden Sound Concert Series presents leading artists in the fields of improvised music and the jazz avant-garde. Now in its 11th year, the series is curated by Jason Finkelman.
