Prof Maurizio Marchese - Dept. of Information Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Trento

Abstract: Social Informatics is an emerging area of informatics that studies how information systems can realize social goals, apply social concepts, and become sources of information relevant for social sciences and for analysis of social phenomena. It is concerned with the intersection of social behaviour and computational systems, and relates to the interdisciplinary study of the design, uses and consequences of information technologies that takes into account their interaction with institutional and cultural contexts. This presentation will focus on the recent research activities carried out in the Social Informatics Research group at the University of Trento, including work on Active Aging, Microtaskings in Crowdsourcing and how to empower local communities for a responsible use of energy.

He has worked in the field of web engineering and service-oriented architectures for over ten years. He is author of over 100 publications, has taken part to FP7 projects as participant (OpenKnowledge (FP6-027253); FET-OPEN LiquidPub ) and coordinator in Asia-Link EAST-WEB on Semantic Web Application (Contract TH/Asia Link/010 (111084)) and Erasmus Mundus European Master in Informatics.
