Abstract: In his brief NASA career, Som Dutta has been able to work on a range of NASA Entry, Descent, and Landing (EDL) missions. Spanning from lower-cost technology demonstration missions, like the first Earth test flight of the Adaptable Deployable Entry Placement Technology (ADEPT) entry vehicle, to multi-billion-dollar flagship missions, like the Mars 2020 Perseverance rover landing. Som is currently working on a Discovery class (mid-cost) mission called DAVINCI that will land the first U.S. probe in Venus since the 1970’s. Som will discuss the nuances of working on these various types of EDL missions and discuss what it is like to wonder every day “what planet am I working on today”.

This seminar is optional for students enrolled in AE590.

The time of this seminar was change. No lunch will be offered, but registration is still requested.
