Two of our recent GGIS graduates will share their work experience at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Superfund Division. Superfund is tasked with cleaning contaminated land, responding to environmental emergencies, and planning response strategies in the event of an emergency.

Matt works with GIS and IT professionals to help maintain EPA servers & data, create web mapping products that aid in determining actions on cleanup sites, and occasionally work in the field gathering elevation data, GPS control points, and locations of critical infrastructure.

Austin's role is heavily related to spatial statistics; analyzing spatial relationships pertaining to contamination on public and private properties to aid in determining the polluters who were responsible for the waste. He also uses GIS to create geographically precise field sampling plans, mapping exactly how and where soil samplings are to be taken for chemical analysis.
