Title: Aging and Multiple Sclerosis-related changes in Mobility Neuromechanics
Abstract: Mobility and cognitive impairment are prevalent and co-occurring in older adults with multiple sclerosis (OAMS), yet there is limited research concerning changes in cognitive control and the role of disability or disease subtype in OAMS. Using mobile neuroimaging and machine learning approaches, this seminar will discuss advances in our understanding of mechanisms underlying mobility and cognitive impairments in OAMS, and initial evidence supporting potential interventions aimed at improving cognitive and motor function in older adults.
Bio: Dr. Hernandez is a faculty member of the Department of Biomedical and Translational Science at the Carle Illinois College of Medicine at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). Dr. Hernandez obtained an MS and PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and is currently the director of the Mobility and Fall Prevention Research Lab at UIUC. His research interests include the study of behavioral and neural mechanisms underlying mobility dysfunction in older adults.
