"Paleogenomics in South Asia: reconstructing the evolutionary histories of humans, their domesticates, and diseases"

Wednesday, April 17, 2019, 4:00 P.M.

Charles G. Miller Auditorium

B102 CLSL

Abstract:  Paleogenomics (ancient DNA) has, over the past few years, provided valuable and direct insights into human prehistory by shedding light on past population structures, migrations, archaic admixture, selection events, domestication, as well as disease evolution. Such studies are valuable in their contribution to several fields including population genetics, medical genetics, and anthropology and archaeology. In discussing the above themes, my talk will touch upon the current underrepresentation of paleogenomics datasets in several regions of the world, including South Asia, and efforts being made by my group and our collaborators to address this gap.

Coffee and cookies will be served in the atrium outside the auditorium beginning at 3:30 p.m.
