Dean of Libraries and University Librarian Paula Kaufman will introduce Head of Preservation & Conservation Jennifer Hain Teper. Jennifer will begin the evening by presenting a visual overview of the current projects and facilities that help to preserve the Library’s world-class collections in all formats, including a virtual tour of the Velde Library Conservation Laboratory. The preservation and conservation program oversees the preservation of all the Library’s materials, including: rare book and manuscript conservation; book repair; digitization; photographic, film and video preservation; and preservation of digital files. The program's current initiatives include a project focused on expanding the Library's special collections conservation treatments (including many maps and early printed books from the Rare Book and Manuscript Library), as well as migrating valuable films, videos, sound recordings, and digital films from obsolete physical formats (anybody remember movies on laser disk or five 1/4 inch computer floppy disks?).

After a visual overview of the program and the materials her team works on, Jennifer will present basic information on how you can better care for your own family heirlooms. Attendees are encouraged to bring examples of preservation questions they have from their own collections.

In addition, Jennifer serves as a consultant on the Alma Mater statue conservation project and will be able to present a brief overview of the project to date.

Event opens at 7:00 p.m. | Program starts at 7:30 p.m.
