In keeping with the general tendency of contemporary scholarship, the most prominent works on “Socratic” theology to date are really works on the theology of Socrates as it is represented in Plato’s writings. This conference aims to provide a welcome and needed corrective to Socratic studies regarding the gods and/or related issues of piety and impiety by featuring papers that engage with the works of Xenophon, Antisthenes, and other so-called “Minor Socratics,” in addition to the dialogues of Plato. In addition to an invited keynote by Prof. Claudia Mársico, one of Latin America’s leading scholars of ancient philosophy, the conference will feature 12 papers (selected through a blind review of abstracts) spread out over two days.
