Professor Satlow’s lecture will examine interfaith relations in Late Antiquity. He argues that—while intellectuals maintained sharp divisions between Jews, Christians, and non-religious groups—these groups tended to interact on a regular basis and were often very much involved in one another’s day-to-day lives. Satlow will share what his research reveals about the similarities across these groups, including their world views, their understanding of the divine, and the relationship between the human and the supernatural.
This lecture is free and open to the public, thanks to the generosity of the Samuel and Sheila Goldberg Lecture Fund. All attendees will be asked to wear masks during the event, but the speaker may remove his mask while presenting.
Professor Satlow will also be discussing a chapter of his current book at a workshop on Tuesday, March 8th (12-1:30) and holding a discussion with students about interfaith relations and antisemitism over lunch on Monday (1PM; space is limited).
