Wrap up your summer the "write" way! The Writing Retreat provides advanced graduate students with dedicated time to make progress on thesis or dissertation writing in a supportive atmosphere. It also provides tools and resources to create positive writing habits.
The retreat provides structured writing, break, and discussion time. Participants should commit to writing from 9am - 12:30pm CT each day. Each writing period will consist of a short goal-setting conversation, quiet writing time, and a concluding reflection and wrap-up. We will also ask participants to practice keeping a writing journal for the week. In the afternoons from 1:30-4:00pm CT, the Writers Workshop and campus partners will provide optional presentations on topics like: goal setting, scheduling strategies, revision strategies, and mental health and wellness in the writing process.
The retreat is ideal for graduate students who are seeking to create or return to a writing routine, make progress and meet deadlines on long-term projects like theses and dissertations, or jump-start a new writing project. We encourage you to commit to the full writing period each day and, ideally, to attend for all five days. Please register for this event using your University of Illinois email account by noon on Friday, August 6.
