Ways of the Web: Filter Bubbles, Search Engines, and YOU

- The workshop will be held in the Main Library, Library 314. Take the north stairwell (Armory and Wright Street entrance) to the 3rd floor of the Main Library and make a left at the top of the stairs.

How do internet search engines work? What internet behaviors might jeopardize privacy? What information do we see on the internet and what is filtered out? This session will introduce participants to basic web searching concepts, touching on everything from principles of usability, to filter bubbles and the deep web. Through demonstrations and hands-on activities using free resources on the internet, participants will learn tips and tricks for searching more actively and thoughtfully. You will learn to be more thorough in your searching and how to be more aware of the effects of your internet activity.
