Bio: Claudius Conrad M.D. Ph.D. Ph.D. is a Professor of Surgery from Boston University, a board certified surgical oncologist with a clinical focus on minimally invasive hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgery. Dr. Conrad joins the Carle Illinois College of Medicine in March 2024 as the Director of Translational Research for the Cancer Center at Illinois, and Medical Director of Surgical Strategy and Innovation for Carle Health. After Surgery residency at Massachusetts General Hospital of Harvard Medical School, followed by Complex General Surgical Oncology fellowship at Dana Farber Cancer Center, Dr. Conrad completed the IHPBA minimally invasive HPB surgery fellowship in Paris and Tokyo. With dual PhDs in Cell Biology and Music Philosophy, Dr. Conrad’s research program focuses on understanding cancer biology/cancer prognostication, improving surgical outcomes through novel technology, and investigating the science of music in clinical medicine - a field he co-founded. As a conservatory trained classical pianist and Steinway Artist, his study of music has informed his practice of surgery and goal of healing patients through personalized and innovative care.
