Free and open to the public

Join Quechua instructor Carlos Molina Vital for a presentation on Ayni, a new beginner level e textbook of Southern Quechua currently in development by the QINTI, Quechua Innovation and Teaching Initiative, team.

Ayni takes a communicative approach to teaching Southern Quechua and highlights the shared foundations of the Chanca, Collao, and Bolivian varieties. These varieties are mutually intelligible and grounded in a rich shared cultural base while also reflecting regional diversity. The project approaches Southern Quechua as a transregional and international language, taught from a broad perspective similar to widely taught languages such as Spanish or English.

During the presentation, Molina Vital will discuss the motivations behind the project and the methodology guiding the design of its communicative, lexical, and grammatical content. He will also reflect on the intended audience for this resource, the importance of collaboration among Quechua speakers across national contexts, and the potential of Ayni and the QINTI Project, qinti.org, to support Quechua teachers and learners in the Andean region and beyond through open access digital materials.
