The mission of Call Me MISTER® (Mentors Instructing Students Toward Effective Role Models) is to increase the pool of available teachers from diverse backgrounds to work in Chicago and Illinois’ lowest performing elementary schools. The broader aim of the program is to address the critical shortage of teachers of color who are essential to the academic and socio-emotional success of an increasingly racially and ethnically diverse U.S. student population. UIC MISTERs are enrolled in UIC’s Urban Education program where they work to earn a Bachelors of Arts (BA) degree and an elementary education professional educator license (PEL) with the possibility of additional endorsements.

This meeting is the orientation for the 2022-2023 Academic Year for both new and returning Mister Scholars and their parents. Initiative overview, expectations, and responsibilities will be covered during this meeting.
