Ryan obtained his B.S. in General Engineering, with Honors, from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2007.  While at Illinois, he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and the Gamma Epsilon Honor Society.

Ryan then received his J.D., cum laude, from DePaul University College of Law, where he also received a Certificate in Patent Law.  While in law school, he was a member and editor of the DePaul Journal of Art, Technology, & Intellectual Property, was president of the DePaul chapter of the Phi Alpha Delta legal fraternity, and received the Allen J. Hoover Memorial Award and Patent Resources Group’s Future Leaders Scholarship.

Ryan is currently a partner and registered patent attorney at the Chicago-based intellectual property law firm of Marshall Gerstein & Borun LLP.  At Marshall Gerstein, Ryan prepares and prosecutes domestic and foreign patent applications in mechanical, electrical, medical, e-commerce, and business method arts, and counsels clients on patentability, freedom to operate and patent invalidity.  Ryan also serves as the firm’s Hiring Partner.

Ryan is a huge fan of the Chicago Bears, the Chicago Cubs, the Chicago Blackhawks, and, of course, the Fighting Illini.
